Professor Mary E. Daly is a member of the UCD School of History and Archives and a graduate of UCD and Oxford. Â She has held visiting positions at Harvard, Boston College and the European University Institute in Florence. Â Her research interests relate to 19th and 20th century Ireland, economy and society, demography, emigration and the Great Famine, women, government policy, and the commemoration of 1916 and the Great Famine. Â She is a member of the Royal Irish Academy and a former secretary, from 2004-2011 she was Principal of the UCD College of Arts and Celtic Studies. Â She has served on three state boards: the Irish Manuscripts Commission, the National Archives Advisory Council and the Higher Education Authority and she is a member of the Government’s Expert Advisory Committee on Commemorations.
