UCD Clinton Institute launches new commentary section, podcast & newsletter
The need for critical thinking about the US is greater than ever today as it struggles with forces of division and disruption within and loses primacy abroad. Political nihilism is growing more evident, no longer masked by the rhetoric of liberal democracy, while polarisation and partisanship are exacerbated by the algorithms of new media.
The heat and noise generated by and around the Trump presidency can be wearing or distracting, rarely conducive to rational thinking and deliberation. It turns political culture into a reality show and blunts critical analysis. It has transfixed the US and much of the rest of the world.
As I argue in my recent post, Connecting the Dots: Writing about the US in the Age of Trump, we need to disengage ourselves from the reality show and reengage our critical faculties and focus.
That is what we will be doing on our new media platforms.
Commentary – will publish short pieces of informed analysis on current topics in American politics, foreign policy, media and culture
America Unfiltered – our new podcast will provide detailed, informed conversation with expert guests that strips back the ideological and political filters of our views of “America”
I look forward to hearing your feedback and thank you for your continued support of the Clinton Institute.
And do check out our brand new website: UCD Clinton Institute
