Bridging the Atlantic: Ireland and the US

The Bridging the Atlantic symposium takes soundings of the Ireland-US relationship in the context of broader transatlantic relations. This is the fourth annual symposium, a collaborative enterprise involving colleagues from Georgetown University in Washington, Queens University Belfast and University College Dublin, and with the support of the Embassy of Ireland in Washington.

Bridging the Atlantic seeks to spotlight issues of mutual concern in the USA, Ireland, and the EU. This year, issues for discussion include:

  • Transatlantic concerns about political and civil disruption, such as the challenges to liberal democracy

  • The EU’s discussion of collective security in relation to the war in Ukraine

  • The impact of US Midterm elections on transatlantic relations

  • Ireland and Irish America

The panel discussions will involve diplomats, policymakers and scholars.
